Welcome to Fall 2019! click here

It’s that time of year when we start thinking of bundling up in cozy sweaters, going to Fall fairs, apple picking, baking (oooooh! those glorious smells😊), enjoying a football game, taking a hayride or simply raking the leaves - only for the kids to jump in the leaf pile and we have to start again! Fall is also a time for coming together with family and/or friends to celebrate what we all have to be thankful for!

Some may ask “where did our Canadian THANKSGIVING come from?” As the story goes, in 1578, English explorer Martin Frobisher and his crew gave thanks and communion was observed, either on land at Frobisher Bay in present day Nanavut, or onboard a ship anchored there. The explorers dined on salt beef, biscuits and mushy peas, and gave thanks through communion for their safe arrival in then Newfoundland. This is now accepted as the first “Canadian'“ Thanksgiving, forty-three years before the first “American” Thanksgiving.

We also look forward to HALLOWEEN - perhaps “the scariest night of the year!” Halloween originated from when the Celtic people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts and remember the dead. Today the custom is to celebrate Halloween in such ways as family/friends coming together to have jack-o-lantern carving competitions or making costumes for the kids and enjoying watching them run off together giggling at neighbourhood doors “trick-or-treating” and collecting an unfathomable amount of treats as they go.

If you choose to celebrate the Halloween festivities, please remember Halloween safety is always a first, and to watch out for those wee-ones dashing across the street to their next trick or treat!

Perhaps the kids could decorate one of our empty ice-cream buckets to collect their treats? or parents pick up our “Special of the month coffee” for that cold-walk with the kids?

From ALL the staff at 3 Cows and A Cone, have a wonderful Fall season and be sure to check out the October calendar for our Udderly Good Deals!
